Hazards/Earthquakes (MapServer)

View In:   ArcGIS JavaScript   ArcGIS Online Map Viewer   ArcGIS Earth   ArcGIS Pro

Service Description: Earthquakes are recorded by a network of seismic stations. Each station measures the movement of the ground. As rocks slide past eachother, vibrations and energy travel out from the earthquake in a wave. As the wave passes by a seismic station, the ground vibrates and a signal is recorded. Knowing how fast the different seismic waves travel, seismologists calculate a time, location, and magnitude. The earthquakes in this map are displayed by magnitude and location.
